MLFC has been recently awarded several research studies for patients. Discounted fertility medication and some free lab services are available for patients who qualify.

The research program at MLFC is overseen by Sharon Anderson, PhD, Scientific and Laboratory Director.  We are committed to developing new technology, writing research grants and obtaining external funding for our patients. Below is a list of our current studies.

1. GSN Study:

MLFC has been awarded a national IVF trial studying pre-implantation genetic screening (PGS) on pregnancy rates. Patients must be between 35-42 (inclusive) years of age. Discounted fertility medication and some free lab services are available for those who qualify.

2. Egg Freezing Study:

MLFC will be conducting an egg freezing study. Qualified patients will receive free fertility medication and a $2000 discount for IVF services. IVF patients must be between the ages of 21 and 37. Day 3 FSH must be less than 10 IU/ml.

3. Hypogonadotropic Hypogonadal (HH) Study:

Patients with HH and profound LH deficiency (LH <1.2 IU/L) seeking infertility treatment by ovulation induction (OI) may qualify for this study. Women must be between the ages of 18 and 40, and theymust have an FSH less than 5 IU/ml. Free fertility medications will be available. If no pregnancy after three OI cycles, the majority of the price of IVF will be at no cost.

4. Fragile X, Tay Sachs, Canavan Disease and other inherited diseases:

MLFC has received donated fertility medications for patients who are carriers of these inherited diseases and will undergo IVF and utilize pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) to have a healthy baby.

5. Biomarker study:

MLFC has been approved for a study evaluating certain substances that are found in follicular fluid and are released by embryos during incubation in the laboratory.  Patients who are undergoing IVF and who qualify will receive a $1000 discount off their IVF cycle.  Women must between the ages of 18 and 37, have an FSH less than 12, and have no more than one previous cycle of IVF.  Women who have diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and endometriosis do not qualify for this study.

6. $3000 IVF cycle: 

 IVF patients with no insurance coverage and who qualify for the Compassionate Care Program will receive an IVF cycle for $3000.  Women must between the ages of 18 and 32, have an FSH less than 12, and have no more than one previous cycle of IVF.  Women who have diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and endometriosis do not qualify for this study.

7.  Reprogenetics Study (beginning in 2012)

IVF patients between the ages of 35-42 who have at least 8 or more antral follicles on IVF cycle day 2-4 may be eligible.  In addition, an IVF patient must have at least 3 blastocyst embryos on day 5 of culture will be randomized to one of two groups -  NO PGD or PGD free of charge.  Eligible patients must have and FSH less than 11 on cycle day 2-4 or an AMH >1.
